Case Details
On Wednesday, May 27, 1970, Charles Cann II went to the PA State Police Barracks in Shickshinny to report that his wife, Ilonka, had been missing since the previous day. According to Mr Cann, he had last seen his wife at about 7:20 on Tuesday morning as he was leaving their home to go to his teaching job at the Berwick Junior High School. When he returned home at around 3:30 that afternoon, his wife was not at the home and his 15-month old son was in his crib upstairs, crying.
After reporting his wife missing, Mr Cann and his father searched the area around the Cann residence, then went to New Jersey, where the elder Cann had a home. On Thursday, the 28th, Charles Cann returned to his job.
State police also conducted a search of the area, including bringing in a scuba team to search a pond close to the Cann's house. No sign of Ilonka was found.
