Unidentified White Male Found April 28, 1986 in Reed Township, Dauphin County
Vital Statistics Estimated Age: 50 to 60 years old Estimated Height: 5'7" to 5'8" Estimated Weight: 150-200 lbs Hair Color: Gray - was partially bald with hair up to 4" long Facial Hair: Full, unshaved beard and mustache, gray in color Distinguishing Characteristics/Medical: Disfigurement of right ankle. Examination of the skull revealed a hole, 1 1/4" in diameter on the right side of the skull. It was an old wound, caused by brain surgery. There was also a fracture to the base of the skull, running from ear to ear. It, too, was an old wound. The hole in the skull was probably due to surgery performed because of an severe skull fracture. The severe skull damage likely left the man mentally challenged. Cause of Death: exposure to cold or drowning. State of Remains: advanced decomposition. Estimated Time of Death: December 1985 - January 1986 Clothing: Red flannel shirt; a t-shirt; a plaid blue, brown and red flannel shirt; cardigan style sweater; khaki-colored jacket, similar to a military fatigue jacket; vest with leather-like exterior and fleece-like interior; pants witha brown, webbed belt; reddish-brown boots with rubber-like soles. Items found with body: a gold-colored, plastic crucifix (pictured above); a book of matches with Publick House 1855 on the cover (pictured above). Dentals: Available. He appeared to have had either no dental care, or only episodic treatment throughout his life. Fingerprints: Not Available DNA: Not Available
Case Details The unidentified man was found lodged under a coal barge in the Susquehanna River in Reed Twp, Dauphin. His body was about 20 feet off the west shoreline, just off of State Route 11/15. It is believed that his body had drifted down the Susquehanna to where it was found.
